Created for my new home in Edgemead, Cape Town, The Hidden Blossoms reflects a moment when life felt as though it was finally beginning to bloom into something I had always wanted.
The figure hides his face in a shy, almost vulnerable gesture. His eyes and hair disappear beneath a cascade of orchids, allowing the flowers to become his identity instead. The blossoms conceal him, yet somehow reveal him more deeply.
The work reflects the parts of ourselves that society may mock, reject or ask us to hide. Sometimes those are precisely the parts that make us beautiful — the strange, sensitive and unexpected pieces that allow us to become fully ourselves.
